Wildcats Finish 4-1 Following Two Weeks of Tough Conference Play

The Wildcats defeated the Farmington Tigers 7-3 on Saturday, January 27th following a two week jaunt of tough conference play.    The Wildcats were determined to play with grit throughout the game after losing a heartbreaker in overtime when they faced the Tigers back on December 12th.   Coming out strong for the Wildcats were both Aiden White and Cole Gibson each scoring two goals in both the first and second periods.  The Wildcat had significant contribution from the majority of the roster seeing many players putting multiple points:   Henry Reiff contributed with 5 points (1 goal and 4 assists); Max Meekin came up strong with 3 points (3 assists); and Aiden Byrne contributed 3 points (3 assists).   The Wildcats also saw a strong performance from Anthony Cardenas who came up with his first assist of the season and the first point of his high school career!   

On January 18, 2020, the Wildcats pulled off a nail biter by defeating the Burnsville Blaze 2-0.   The game was fairly evenly matched with no goals following the first period.   At 6:51 in the second period, Reiff scored tipping in and redirecting a slap shot from Ben Wilary.   Wilary game through scoring shortly thereafter to put the Wildcats up 2-0.   Derek Manzella pulled off the shutout by successfully defending against 24 shots on goal.   

The Wildcats dropped a game in conference play losing to Lakeville South 2-3 on January 16, 2020.   This was 5th overtime game for the Wildcats in conference play.   South came out strong with its first goal at 1:39 and second goal at 11:14.   Meekin responded at just a little over one minute remaining in the period.  Meekin’s goal was assisted by Jonny Meiers and Cole Gibson.   Byrne tied up the game at 7:30 in the second period assisted by Meekin and Meiers.   Both teams played exceptional hockey third period leaving it 2-2 going into overtime.   Manzella played an excellent game working against 40 shots on goal.   South scored at 5:48 in overtime leaving the Wildcats with its third overtime loss in conference play.   

The Wildcats defeated the second ranked conference team, Lakeville North, 3-2 on January 11, 2020.   Another tough fought out victory for the Wildcats.   Dylan Wedward saw his first varsity goal assisted by Meiers and Meekin.   Again, the Wildcats saw strong performance from Meiers (scoring in the first period with an assist in the second period), and Gibson and Reiff (both contributing with assists). 

The Wildcats pulled off an overtime win over Eastview 3-2 in yet another conference game on January 9, 2020.   Aiden White had the winning goal 1:01 in overtime assisted by Meekin and Byrne.   Manzella played another fabulous game defending 40 shots on goal.   The Wildcats saw numerus players putting up points:  Byrne (2 assists), Meekin (assist), Reiff (goal) and Meiers (assist).   

Over the last two weeks, the Wildcats secured four conference wins and one loss; currently standing at fifth place in the conference.   The team continues to see strong performances and contribution throughout the line-up.   The Wildcats face Prior Lake on Thursday.
