Meiers leads Wildcats to 1st victory over the Cougars since 2014

Thursday night’s South Suburban Conference game between Eagan and Lakeville South began in the dark, with spotlights chasing the Cougars around their home ice in the spirit of pomp and circumstance.

However, the theatrics designed to spike Lakeville South’s adrenaline had the same effect on Eagan forward Nick Sherek.

“I know we do it at our rink, but it just fires me up,” the junior said after the game.

Sherek and second-season linemate Jonny Meiers propelled their Wildcats (6-2, 4-2) to a sound 7-3 win, with Sherek notching a goal and an assist in the second period and Meiers totaling a hat-trick and an assist.

Eagan head coach Mike Taylor said that while Sherek and Meiers showed flashes of skill last season, being a year older has done wonders for the duo.

“They’ve both gotten stronger, they’ve both gotten smarter, and look at how young they still are,” Taylor said.

Junior forward Adam Harvey drew first blood for Lakeville South (6-4, 5-2) with just over 11 minutes to play in the first period, marking the first time this season the Wildcats have not opened the scoring in seven games. (Click link below to read the rest of the story).
