Outstanding performance by Toussaint to preserve one-goal lead

In the Wildcat’s annual road trip to northern Minnesota, the team faced off against Virginia (11-6-1) during a Saturday afternoon contest at the historic Miners Memorial Arena. The Wildcats (11-4) started the game with a few players on injured reserve, but they were still able to battle hard. Virginia got on the boards first with a power play goal thirteen minutes into the contest. But Eagan would answer back quickly on a goal by junior forward William Randall (assist Eli Doney). The first period was fraught with penalties with each team sending three players to the box. The physical period would end with one a piece.

Eagan’s Michael Beneke would give the Cats the lead early in the second (assist Keegan Johnson). It would take a while but Virginia answered back to tie it up 2-2 going into the third period. A power play by the opponents proved costly for the Cats as they would fall behind 3-2 early in the third. But then junior defense Jack Mason would deflect a blue line shot off a Virginia defenseman to tie it back up at 3 a piece. Junior forward Drew Wilson, making a timely return after an upper body injury, would put in the game winner with 7 minutes left in the game to make it 4-3 Eagan.  Senior goalie Brandon Toussaint made several incredible saves during an onslaught of shots during the final few minutes of play to preserve the victory for his teammates. He would end the game with 26 saves. Total shots on goal were 39 for Eagan and 29 for Virginia.
