Wildcats struggle in the penalty-box

Both teams take the ice in awe of the spectacular facilities that the Minnesota Wild practice in here at the Tria Rink in downtown St. Paul.  The Wildcats should have been paying more attention to the ice as they picked up their first minor penalty of the game just a minute-twenty into the first period and then their second just six minutes later.  As the penalty expired and the Wildcats thinking they had weathered the storm, Cloquet sneaks one past the goal-keeper to go up 1-0.  And then not even 5 minutes later they snipe one to go up 2-0.  Both teams trade two, 2 minute minors that result in no goals as the first period ends with the Wildcats down 2-0.

Coach Taylor must have had one great intermission speech as the Wildcats came out flying in the second period.  Just 42 seconds into the period a goal by Junior Center and Captain, Jonny Meiers.  Assisted by Senior Forward and Captain, Keegan Johnson.  But they weren't done yet.  Just a four short minutes later, once again, a goal by Meiers.  Assists by Senior Forward and Captain, Nick Sherek and Johnson.  With the game now tied at two, Eagan continues to press and just one short minute later a goal by Senior Forward, William Randall and assisted by Senior Defenseman, Jack Mason.  With the Wildcats up 3-2 there is a new feeling to the game.  But unfortunately that feeling only lasted for a minute and forty-five seconds as Cloquet finds the back of the net to tie things up at three each.  Both teams trade a minor penalty towards the end of the 2nd period but no goals are tallied and the third period ends  all tied up at 3 each.

The third period starts and its anyone's game.  A little wind escapes from the Wildcats sails as Cloquet gets one past the Wildcat Tender with just three minutes gone.  Shots on goal continue to be equal between both squads and the period is a quick paced back and forth.  Down by one the Wildcats are forced to pull Manzella with just a couple minutes remaining.  And while the Cats had a few good chances, Cloquet drains an empty net goal at 15:36 of the third.  The Wildcats drop their 2nd of the season to Cloquet by a score of 5-3.  Next game for the Wildcats will be against Eastview on the 11th at 7:15pm at Eagan Ice Arena.
