Rematch with a Lightning Strike

Lightning striking once is bad enough

It's the new year and the Wildcats are looking for a sweep of the Eastview Lightning.  Things started out well for the Wildcats.  They seemed to be dominating Eastview with both zone time and shots on goal in the first period.  With just over six minutes gone by the Wildcats find themselves in the penalty box for a roughing minor.  The Cats killed off that penalty easy enough and then Eastview would take their turn in the box for a tripping minor.  Eastview was able to withstand the precision passing of Eagan's power-play.  Just a couple minutes later things started to heat up.  Eagan goes in the box once again for interference and Eastview begins to surge with some momentum.  Just a little over ten seconds into the power-play Eastview gets one past the Eagan goal-tender for the first goal of the game.  At the end of the first period it's Eastview one and Eagan zero.  A bright spot was that Eagan out-shot  Eastview  thirteen to four.

As the second period begins you can see that Eagan is desperately trying to get on the score sheet.  Eastview even helps out by going to the box twice in the first ten minutes but the Wildcats are unable to capitalize.  But at 13:55 in the period a bit of chaos ensues.  Senior Center and Captain Keegan Johnson gets a dirty goal past the Eastview net-minder.  Assists going to Senior Forward and Captain, Nick Sherek and Junior Forward and Assistant Captain, Jonny Meiers.   A bit of pushing (swinging) occurs and before you know it there are three players ushered to the sin bin for roughing.  Fortunately, no one was injured and all penalties were minors.   No further scoring occurs and as the second period ends, the Wildcats have tied things up at one goal a piece.   Again, the Wildcats out-shot the Lightning thirteen to nine.

At the start of the third period you can feel the energy rise in the rink as neither cross town rival wants to give-way.  Unfortunately Eagan has a tripping and a roughing penalty in the first half of the third period but is able to kill them off without casualty.   Then at ten minutes into the third Eagan goes in the box once again, this time for high-sticking.  About half way through the penalty Eastview gets one past the Eagan goal tender to take the lead two to one.  Eagan presses for the remainder of the third and even pulls the goalie but to no avail.  Eagan loses a close one two to one to the Eastview Lightning and splits the series.  In the end Eagan out shoots Eastview thiry-eight to twenty-three.  Eagan's next game is tomorrow night (1/5) at 7pm at Eagan Civic Arena.
