Winner cannot be decided during regulation play

Sure, Lakeville South has a really good team.  The South suburban conference is loaded with a lot of really good teams.  And to beat any of them you need to be on your game, take good shots, stay out of the box and hope you're not up against a really hot goalie.  Tonight's game started pretty much as everyone expected.  While a penalty free period was a bit of a surprise the fact that Eagan scored two points during the first period was not much of a surprise.  The first goal at nearly twelve minutes gone by goes to Senior Center and Captain, Keegan Johnson.  Assists going to Junior Forward, Henry Reiff and Junior Forward and Assistant Captain Jonny Meiers.  Then just two and a half minutes later another goal, this time by Meiers, assisted by Senior Defenseman, Eli Dolney.  At the end of the first, Eagan out-shot South nine to seven and leads two to zero.

The second period began with confidence for Eagan.  And the scoring continued as Junior Defenseman and Assistant Captain, Max Meekin gets a power-play goal.  Assists going to Senior Forward and Captain, Nick Sherek and Meiers.  Unfortunately the next twelve minutes of the second period would be where the momentum shifts towards South and its something the Wildcats are unable to overcome.  South scores at nine and ten minutes gone-by.  And then South adds a third of the period on the power-play.  And to add insult to injury South adds their fourth goal of the period just before the buzzer sounds.  Cats are now down by the score of four to three.

Realizing the situation they are in, Eagan came out in the third period pressing hard.  And just as quickly as the puck gets dropped the Wildcats are on the board with a goal by Senior Center, Will Heutmaker and an assist by Senior Forward, Ethan Pearson.  The remainder of the period there was no scoring and no penalties.  But the Wildcats continued to shoot and do so often.  Cats out-shot South fourteen to ten.

So with regular time in the books and all tied up at four, both teams head to overtime.  At the drop of the puck Eagan jumps on the opportunity and is able to get four decent shots off against South.  But unfortunately two and half minutes into overtime South buries one and wins five to four.  Eagan out-shoots South forty-three to twenty-five.  Eagan's next game is home against the Rosemount Irish on January 8th at 7:15pm.
