Needing to shoot the puck and minimize penalties

Sometimes winning a game that you are supposed to win can be extremely tricky.  But fortunately for the Wildcats, not tonight.  The Sabre's square off with the Wildcats.  As the game begins the Wildcats had an edge about them.  Commanding lots of zone time and getting some quality shots.  And then with just four minutes gone in the first, Junior Defenseman and Assistant Captain, Max Meekin, tips a pass past the Sabre defense and was off to the races.  Meekin gets in on the goal-tender, goes backhand and bury's his shot.    Assist goes to Junior Center and Assistant Captain, Jonny Meiers.  Then just three minutes later, Junior Center, Cole Gibson gets one past the Sabre tender.  Assists going to Junior Forward, Henry Reiff and Senior Forward, Cullen Myhre.  The period ends without any other significant action.  At the end of the first it's the Wildcats two and the Sabre's nothing.  The Wildcats out-shot the Sabres, nine to four.

The second period starts very similarly to the first.  The Wildcats are pressing hard, getting great zone time and getting quality shots on the goalie.  Just over three minutes gone in the first period Senior Forward and Captain, Nick Sherek gets one past the goalie.  Assist going to Jonny Meiers.  Then just two and half minutes later, and before the goalie can get settled, Gibson shoots one by the goal tender assisted by Senior Defenseman, Jack Mason.  For the next nine minutes the Wildcats press the Sabres hard and continue to dominate.  Then just before the end of the period Junior Forward, Henry Reiff slides one by the goalie.  The assist goes to Jonny Meiers.  At the end of the second period it's the Wildcats five and the Sabres nothing.  In that period the Wildcats out-shot the Sabres seventeen to six.

At the beginning of the third period the Wildcats find themselves with a solid lead.  This lead has caused the Sabres to tighten up and they do an effective job of keeping Eagan's shots to a minimum.  But with just over eleven minutes gone, Nick Sherek blasts one by the goalie.  Assists going to Junior Defenseman, Aidan Byrne and Jack Mason.  Other than a couple of penalties in the period that's about all the action for one night.  And with the Wildcats out shooting the Sabres thirty-four to eighteen they are victorious six to zero.  Junior Goalie, Derek Manzella played a great game between the pipes and shut-down eighteen of eighteen shots and gets the win.  Eagan's next contest is Tuesday, January fifteenth at 7pm against Apple Valley at their home rink.
