Wildcats Close Out the Season 2-2

The Wildcats closed out the regular season with wins against Eastview and Duluth East and losses against Lakeville North and South.   

On February 8, 2020, the Wildcats faced the Eastview Lightning and came up on top 5-0.  The Wildcats came out strong in the third period following two scoreless periods.    Derek Manzella came up with his 4th shut-out of the season after successfully defending against 45 shots on goal.   Henry Reiff came up with his first hat trick of the season.   Reiff scored two goals within a minute and a half of each other at the start of the third period.   Reiff’s first two goals were assisted by Aidan Byrne and Cole Gibson.   Tony Asta came up with a goal shortly thereafter assisted by Aiden White and Alex Lachenmayer.    Reiff scored the hatty in a sweet forehand to backhand assisted by Jonny Meiers and Aiden Byrne.   Gibson scored the final goal to seal off the win.   

On February 10, 2020, the Wildcats faced Duluth East with a nonconference win.   Manzella played amazing coming up with a back-to-back and 5th shut-out of the season defending against 25 shots on goal.   Manzella continues to provide strong leadership and steady play in the defensive slot for the Wildcats.  Byrne and Gibson continue to dominate offensively each contributing with a goal and assists.   In the last two weeks alone, Byrne contributed with 1 goal and 5 assists.  Leighton Olson who was recently pulled up to the third line for the Wildcats came up quick with his first varsity goal.   Olson has proven to be a strong and quick skater who is not afraid to play with edge.  

The Wildcats finished up with two losses facing Lakeville North and Lakeville South.    Meiers came up with the single goal in each game with assists from Reiff, Asta and Byrne.   Meiers leads the team with 34 points; 15 goals and 19 assists.   Meiers continues to be a top performer playing a steady and quick game contributing on both the offensive and defensive lines.   

The Wildcats closed off regular season play with 16 wins and 9 losses.  The Wildcats head into post-season play seeded at number 3 facing the Jefferson Jaguars at the Eagan Civic Center on Thursday.
