The early season matchup that pit Eagan against tough South Suburban Conference rival Eastview tilted in favor of the Cats. Early in the 1st period, sophomore forward Jonny Meiers popped in a goal on a pass from linemate Nick Sherek. 2nd assist to junior forward Ethan Pearson. That put the Cats on the board first. About seven minutes later, Eastview would put in two quick back-to-back goals to go up 2-1. But the Lightning wouldn't carry that momentum into the locker room. With two minutes left in the opening period, junior defense Matthew Bergom launched one in from the blue line to tie it up before the break.
The Lightning came out striking early in the second with a goal in the first minute. But Bergom crashed their party again with another blue line bomb, assists from Drew Wilson and Keegan Johnson. The period would end tied up at 3 a piece.
Midway into the final period, Wilson, coming down between the hashmarks, would intercept an ill-advised pass from an Eastview player, giving him a breakaway gift that he capitalized on burying it in the upper corner. That would be the game winner! Eagan 4 Eastview 3.
Brandon Toussaint had 23 saves for the Wildcats. Shots on goal: Eagan 23 Eastview 26.
