Wildcats put together a complete game

The Wildcats take on their cross town rivals in the Eastview Lightning. Coaches don't need to charge up their team when these two teams play one another.  Boys on both sides have been playing youth hockey and other sports with one another for many years.  The boys were ready play.  But with only a minute gone in the first period the Wildcats go in the box for delay of game.  With a huge momentum swing there was an uneasy feeling in the rink.  Wildcats do a great job and kill off the penalty.  Just three minutes later the Lightning get called for hooking and go to the box.  Eagan does not convert but just five minutes later the Wildcats get on the board.  The goal is scored by Senior Forward and Captain, Nick Sherek.  The assists go to Junior Defenseman, Aidan Byrne and Junior Center and Assistant Captain, Jonny Meiers.  You could begin to feel the momentum shift and just two minutes later Senior Forward and Captain, Keegan Johnson tallies one on the score sheet.  Assists by Meiers and Sherek.  And then five minutes later the third and final goal of the 1st period goes to Senior Forward, Cullen Myhre.  Assists go to Senior Defenseman, Eli Dolney and Senior Forward, Michael Beneke.  Eagan on top of Eastview three to zero.

The second period starts with the Wildcats energized.  Two minutes into the period the Lightning get caught with too many men on the ice.  As that penalty is set to expire Johnson gets one past the Eastview goaltender.  Assisted by Meiers and Senior Forward , William Randall.  And less than three minutes later Junior Forward, Henry Reiff finds the back of the net, assisted by Senior Defensemen, Jack Mason.  A few minutes later the Cats go in the box for roughing.  But the Cats kill off the penalty without issue.  Then just a minute and a half later Junior Center, Cole Gibson sneaks one past the Netminder.  Assisted by Randall and Myhre.  At the end of the 2nd period the Wildcats are dominating by the score of six to zero.

The third period began with a sense of calmness with the Cats up 6-0 over Eastview.  But the Wildcats were not done scoring.  Just six and a half minutes into the third period Junior Forward, Luke Anderson snipes one past the Lightning goalie.  Wildcats now have a commanding seven to zero lead.  For the remainder of the game the Lightning seem to have no answer for the Wildcat pressure.  Eagan stumbles a little and has 3 penalties but manages to kill off each of them.

Eagan dominated on the score sheet as well as on the ice.   Shots on goal were in the Wildcats favor 47 to 25 and taking advantage of penalties by scoring on 2 of 3 while not allowing Eastview to score on any of their 3 power plays.  Even more impressive than the score was Junior Goalie, Derek Manzella.  Manzella stood on his head and saved all 25 shots to earn the win and get the shut-out.  Next game the Wildcats take on Farmington on the 15th at 7pm at Schmitz-Maki Arena.
