A Shako Sweep

By Eagan Boys Hockey, 02/12/19, 4:45PM CST

Six different goal scorers get the job done

The Wildcats are going for the sweep of Shakopee tonight in their second meeting of the season.  From the drop of the puck the momentum was in the Wildcats favor.  When the shots go in your favor, one hopes that the goals will as well.  Then with five and half minutes gone in the first period Ethan Pearson gets one by the Sabre goalie.  Assists going to Michael Beneke and Matt Bergom.  Then just three minutes later, Michael Beneke has his turn with the back of the net.  Assists going to Keegan Johnson and Eli Dolney.  Three penalties in the period.  One from Shakopee and two minors by the Eagan Wildcats.  At the end of the first period the Wildcats are leading two to nothing.  Also leading in shots, nine to three.

As the second period begins you could see that the Wildcats have settled into their offense and their confidence was high.  Just seventeen seconds into the period Michael Beneke gets another goal.  Assist going to Ethan Pearson.  And about fifteen seconds later Jack Mason scores with the assist going to Jonny Meiers.  Then eight minutes later Jonny Meirs gets his own goal short handed with the assist going to Keegan Johnson.  Just over two and a half minutes later, once again its Jonny Meiers with another goal and assists going to Jack Mason and Keegan Johnson.  Not even a minute later Cole Gibson gets the goal with assists going to Henry Reiff and Eli Dolney.  And before the end of the second period it's Jonny Meiers with the hat trick on the power play, assisted by Aidan Byrne.  At the end of the second period the Wildcats have scored six more goals.   They out-shot the Sabre's  seventeen to four and lead by the score of eight to nothing.

The third period starts and the Wildcats begin to change up their lines.  And before the end of the third period it's Tony Asta with the goal and Alex Lachenmayer and Ben Wilary with the assists.  Wildcat Goalie, Derek Manzella wasn't seriously tested but did keep out fourteen of fourteen shots and gets the win.  Next up for the Wildcats is a make-up game on Friday night at 7pm.
